Any permanent gas installation (gas stoves and ovens, gas fires or braais, gas geysers etc) requires a COC to proof that the appliance is safe, leak free and installed in accordance with the SANS regulations.

Take note that when an appliance is purchased the customer must ensure that it has SANS and LPGSASA certificates of approval.

LPGSASA maintains a database of approved appliances on its website should you need to check if your appliance is approved.

The number of appliances connected to the same gas station are not relevant. Only when you have two stations of gas cylinders on a single premises then two COCs will be required.

Despite the utmost importance of a COC for the health and safety of your family, it is also required by law in the instances of selling your home and insurance claims.

Insurance claims will be repudiated if it is found that the policy holder is not in possession of a COC issued by an authorised person registered with the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Association of South Africa.

It is important to make sure that the specific gas cylinder’s capacity can accommodate the different appliances.
